When Adaptive Systems (Formerly Internet Solutions Australia), a mid-sized Canberra-based Telecommunications Service Provider decided to downsize their Hosting & Co-location operations in favour of their Software Development operations in 2005, a deal was struck between the Adaptive board and the Hosting Operations team, and Rendrag Networks was born. Having dealt with a large portion of the client base since 1999, we were rather reluctant to see our valued clients let go to pasture, and felt we still had a lot to give.

In early 2006, Adaptives' 50+ servers (many VERY much legacy-grade hardware!) were consolidated to a handful of (then) new-technology dual Hyperthreaded Xeon servers running VMware server in the TransACT datacenter in Canberra.

Mid 2008 saw us partner with Platform Networks, and moving our servers to the Global Switch datacenter in Sydney. This saw us move from the rather expensive connectivity within TransACT ($20/gb on a 10mbit pipe!), to a very fast, multi-homed gigabit connection with much nicer bandwidth pricing. At this stage, between web-servers, VOIP application gateways, Application servers, and database servers, we were starting to look like busting out of our 1/3rd rack. Beefier servers, and more VMware VM's were the call of the day, to pack as much bang-for-buck as possible into our rack space. But good things just can't last forever!

New Years 2011 saw us experimenting with Citrix XenServer, multicore Xeons, and multipath SAN backends. June/July 2011 was a very busy time, migrating VM's into a nice shiny new farm of dual quad-core Citrix XenServers, backed into a nice fast, and redundant, 16TB raid6+1spare SAN. To make the migration easier, we organised a new rack, which we had almost filled within a couple of months! And of course, because we've been at it for such a long time, and have seen what can go wrong, we sorted out a twice-daily sync of all hosted systems to both a local storage array, and an offsite location. Well ok, actually TWO offsite locations - we like to REALLY tick the boxes when it comes to backups!
